Regular conjugation (-er, -ir, -re) and common irregular verbs

Regular Verb Conjugation

1st Group: -er verbs (the most common — about 90% of French verbs)

Using parler (to speak) as an example:

Memory tip: The je/tu/il/ils forms all sound the same ([paʁl]) — only nous and vous sound different. The -e, -es, -ent endings are all silent!

2nd Group: -ir verbs

Using finir (to finish) as an example:

Note: The -iss- infix appears in the plural forms. Not all -ir verbs follow this patternsome (like partir, dormir) are irregular.

Pattern: These three "boot verbs" share a similar patternthe je/tu/il/ils forms have a stem change, while nous/vous keep the infinitive stem. The changed forms create a "boot" shape in the conjugation table.
