What This Task Looks Like in TCF

Writing Tâche 1 is the shortest and foundational writing task in the set:

• Word count: 60 - 120 words
• Task type: Write a short message to someone you know—neighbor’s note, friend’s invitation, colleague’s leave request, family thank-you
• Skill level: A2 → B1
• Time: 10 minutes
• Key: All elements specified in the prompt must be included (inviter/invitee, time, place, reason). Missing one means an automatic deduction in "communication ability."

Common Pitfalls for Test Takers

• Writing too much or too little: 150 words or only 45 words. Word count outside Tâche 1 limits loses points.
• Missing key points: Not specifying "when" or "where" in the message—communication dimension drops to /1.
• Wrong form of address: Writing Cher Monsieur to a neighbor (too formal) or Salut bro (too casual).
• No signature: French messages end with À bientôt / Cordialement / Amicalement; abrupt endings hurt impressions.
• Wrong passé composé auxiliary: J'ai venu (wrong) / Je suis venu (correct).
