What This Task Looks Like on the TCF

Writing Tâche 2 transitions from "private short messages" to "public texts":

  • Word count: 120 - 150 words
  • Task type: Blog post, forum post, magazine submission — tell a personal story and describe details (people, place, feelings)
  • Skill level: B1 → B2
  • Time: 10 minutes
  • Key point: Past tense alternation — narration in passé composé, background description in imparfait, a hard B2 requirement

Full score is based on 7 dimensions (each /3):

  1. Communication / task completion
  2. Narrative ability (clear timeline)
  3. Descriptive ability (people, place, senses, emotions)
  4. Coherence (d'abord, ensuite, puis, à ce moment-là, finalement)
  5. Vocabulary breadth + precision
  6. Past tense alternation — a separate grammar dimension
  7. Spelling

Why Just Using ChatGPT to "Correct My French Essay" Sucks

A normal "correct my French essay" prompt only gives you syntactic rewrites, it won’t specifically highlight the "past tense alternation" — which is the core of Tâche 2. So you might think your vocabulary is good enough for B2, but if you never use imparfait or use it wrong, your real exam score won’t improve.

Our prompt link will:

  • Provide a blog/forum submission style prompt
  • Wait for your full answer before scoring
  • Draw a "story structure card": situation initiale (imparfait) / déclencheur (PC) / développement (alternance) / descriptive elements / emotional elements, each with ✅⚠️❌
  • Score 7 dimensions /3, with special focus on past tense alternation
  • Mark errors sentence by sentence: 🔧 grammar errors (must fix) and 💡 style upgrades (suggested)
  • Provide a 120-150 word B2 template with tense switch points bolded

Tool: 📝 Sujet Tâche 2 — TCF Canada

Vous tenez un blog de voyage. Racontez le voyage qui vous a le plus marqué et décrivez le moment qui vous a le plus ému·e.
Écrivez 120 à 150 mots. Vous avez 10 minutes.

You: (write a 120-150 word French narrative in past tenses)

Tool: (scoring phase)

  • Word count: 134 words ✅
  • Story structure card (5 blocks checked or crossed)
  • 7 dimensions /3 score sheet + total 15/20
  • CEFR estimate: B1+
  • Inline comments like [J'ai été marché → J'ai marché] [il faisait beau → same sentence and later PC good alternation ✓]
  • 3 B2-level expression upgrades
  • B2 template (a rewritten paragraph)
  • 3 memorable "narrative tricks" (je n'oublierai jamais le moment où..., ce qui m'a le plus frappé·e, c'est..., depuis ce jour-là...)

Most Common Pitfalls for Candidates

  • All passé composé: actions + background all in PC, no imparfait. Grammar breadth dimension immediately /1
  • Misusing imparfait as action tense: Je marchais à la plage et je voyais... (should be Je marchais... et soudain j'ai vu...)
  • No description: only what happened, no details on appearance or feelings. Deducted in description dimension
  • Messy timeline: wrong connectors — full of et après, et après, no d'abord / ensuite / puis / par la suite
  • No "present feeling" in conclusion: B2 marker is Depuis, je..., Aujourd'hui encore, je... — bringing the past back to the present
